Message from the President

Expect Great Things

Hello BSHRM Family! Dream a little dream with me. Imagine what BSHRM 2015 could look like if we, as a chapter, establish and commit to a long term plan. Imagine the momentum of over 400 committed members volunteering to work in some capacity in the chapter. The average monthly attendance could be 300-400 members and we would outgrow our current meeting places. The Chapter would organize subgroups such as benefits, compensation, training, employment and HRIS that meet the specialized needs of members. Imagine a mentorship program revitalized with over 200 engaged participants.

Picture the Chapter hosting the largest annual job and career fair in the southeastern region. Revenue generated from the event could be used to bring in the best speakers anywhere in the USA on a regular basis. Envision the Chapter hosting a certification program by satellite that would afford human resource practitioners throughout Alabama the opportunity to receive the training needed to prepare for the certification exam.

By 2015, BSHRM will establish long term relationships with high schools like Hoover, Ensley, Spain Park, Parker and others. Chapter volunteers will be preparing our next generation for the workplace. The chapter will be partnering with local colleges that have human resource related programs, providing expert curriculum guidance. We will be active partners with colleges and universities like Samford, Birmingham Southern, Miles, Lawson State, University of Phoenix, Faulkner University and UAB.

BSHRM has earned the Superior Merit Award every year since 1992 in recognition of outstanding volunteer leadership and chapter initiatives. The year 2007 was no exception. By 2015, the chapter will be achieving the Pinnacle Award by exhibiting the best in HR innovations year after year.

It is simple to understand why. In 2008, your Board, Advisory Council, and all of the hard working professionals who volunteer their time will complete the foundation for our future accomplishments. Chapter continuity and teamwork will build upon this solid base, and we will reach new heights every year. It is no small task. In fact, (as you may have heard me say) it's like trying to eat an elephant. We have already divided our projects and goals into bite-size tasks. As a team we will continue to eat the elephant one bite at a time. Join us and dig in!
